Everolimus
Everolimus is a macrocyclic lactone that inhibits the mTOR receptor by complexing it. By complexing the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mechanistic target of rapamycin; mTOR) cell proliferation is disturbed especially in T cells. It therefore acts as an immunosuppressant. It is used in kidney and heart transplants in combination with cyclosporine. As an antineoplastic, it is only used in "second-line" therapies.
